Simple Search Engine Tutorials

How to check if your site is indexed by a search engine.
in google.com type site:www.yoursite.co.uk replacing yoursite with your own website name of course! This will return a list of all the pages of your site that google has in its index.
For more detailed site information i highly recommend you add your site to google webmaster tools.

What search terms is your site ranked for?
Think about the words people use to find your business, if you are a sports shop and you sell rugby boots for example, where are you listed in google for that search term?
Try to make a short list of phrases that you think people would use when searching for your product or service and type them into google and check where you appear. Now, bearing in mind the majority of internet searchers click on the top 5 results, if your not even on the first page then you are missing out on masses of potential customers.

For example the term ‘Rugby Boots’ has an approximate search volume of over 90,000 last month. If you were on the first page of google for that term you would have a share of all 90,000 customers last month, now thats a lot of sales!
